About this work
In a snowy landscape, Honzô, disguised as a traveling monk, lifts his green hat while looking toward a room where a woman and a girl are sitting. The woman was about to behead the girl with a sword when she was stopped by the sound of a flute. The flute was played by the monk, who in reality is her own husband. Scene from the ninth act of the kabuki play Kanadehon chûshingura, in which the husband is played by actor Sawamura Chôjûrô V.
