About this work
One of a series of six. Son (Filius Prodigus) kneeling and embraced by father (Pater). Around them Love (Dilectio), Truth (Veritas), Hope (Spes), Repentance (Poenitentia) trampling despair (Desperata conscientia), and Faith (Fides). Sun in the sky with the word God in Hebrew, Greek and Latin letters. Print from a series of six woodcuts depicting the History of the Prodigal Son with six-line Latin inscriptions in book type. The woodcut is hand-coloured, with the costumes of the depicted figures adapted / modernised.
