About this work

Depiction of the Earth; from a series of four with allegorical representations of the four elements. The female personification of the Earth is depicted as a half-naked huntress with a spear, arrow and bow, hunting horn and dogs, seated under a tree. In the background, a group of hunters on foot and horseback chases a stag. The text around the margin reads: 't Gevanghen Wildt mijn klagen stilt / d'Aerdt is tot voetsel der Menschen mildt. This print is part of a series of four prints of the elements.
