About this work

Portrait in oval, allegory on his death. Above the portrait the motto 'bonis quod fit, non hoc interit' with a phoenix and three boys in a nest. The nest is supported by Prudence (Prudentia) and Piety (Pietas) standing on either side of the portrait. Below the portrait a skull with a laurel wreath. On the pedestal an inscription in Latin. On either side of the inscription sit two angels.
