About this work

A night scene of the main street of Yoshiwara, the red-light district of Tokyo. Women working in the brothels stand outside to beckon visitors inside. Cherry blossoms were planted in the middle of the street. Yoshiwara was almost completely destroyed by the 1923 earthquake. Kishio may be depicting a historical image from a bygone era. Print number 50 from a series of 100.
