About this work
The Dutch embassy in Constantinople guarded by two local soldiers, a retired Dutch veteran and a seal (H. Ms. Zeehond) in a wooden tub. [Marinemuseum Den Helder: The print refers to Hr.Ms. schooner Zeehond which stayed in Turkish waters in 1896 and 1897 in connection with a war outbreak between Greece and Turkey. The 'Zeehond' was sent to protect Dutch interests in that region.]
