About this work
Cartoon on the return of Rembrandt's painting The Night Watch to the Rijksmuseum after the end of the Rembrandt exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1898. The wrapped painting is being driven to the Rijksmuseum on a hearse in a funeral procession. In front of the wagon walk Van Riemsdijk, Pierre Cuypers and Victor de Stuers, to the right next to the wagon Breitner and Israëls.
