About this work
Pieter Jelles Troelstra is offered two crowns by the formateur Dirk Bos, in the guise of an angel: an imperial crown 'power' and a crown of thorns with the inscription 'Marx'. Troelstra reaches out his hand toward the crown of thorns. In the caption, some verses freely based on Multatuli's 'Vorstenschool'. Following the offer to the SDAP of three portfolios by the formateur after the June 1913 Second Chamber elections.
