Professor and literary scholar Jan ten Brink presents an old gentleman, the personification of the Society of Dutch Literature in Leiden from 1766, to the thirteen women appointed as members of the Society. In the front stand Hélène Swarth, Sophie van Wermeskerken-Junius, Marie Sloot, and Virginie Loveling.
