About this work
Satire inspired by 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' by Rembrandt, following the intention of the Medical Faculty of the University of Amsterdam to appoint pathologist-anatomist Caspar Hendrik Kuhn as professor of surgery. Around a dissecting table are the faculty members Dirk van Haren Noman, Pieter Klazes Pel, Gijsbert van Tienhoven, Thomas Place, Jan Willem Reiner Tilanus, Barend Joseph Stokvis, Heinrich Daniël Joachim Hertz and Kuhn himself. Kuhn dissects the forearm of a man 'Corpus vile' who looks up in fright.
