About this work

The young woman Ôgiori Sayuri, in a blue kimono with a floral pattern, raises her left arm in an attempt to seduce Watanabe no Tsuna, depicted at the top. This is a scene from a Kabuki play, where the woman is played by Baikô, a pseudonym for Kabuki actor Onoe Kikugorô V. In the cartouche above, his opponent is depicted. In this play, that is Ichikawa Sadanji I, who played Watanabe no Tsuna.
