About this work
Siege of Ostend: heavy bombardment from the Spanish forts of the States' ships trying to supply the city. By firing many shots from the city with heavy artillery, a smoke screen could be laid, depriving the ships of visibility, 1603. Top left a cartouche with inscription in Latin. Bottom right numbered: 4.
