About this work
Ornaments for between the caryatids above the reliefs in the Vierschaar on the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam. On the left and right a Medusa head or Gorgon, in the center the all-seeing eye with a palm branch and a sword. The Vierschaar was a public court of justice used exclusively by the sheriff and aldermen for pronouncing death sentences. Marked at the bottom center: E.
