About this work
Relief with Mercury, Argus and Io above the door to the Burgomasters' Chamber on the east side of the Burgerzaal in the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam. On the left Mercury, who tries to put Argus to sleep with his flute. At Argus' feet a dog, behind him Io. This scene warns the burgomasters to remain vigilant at all times.
