About this work
Interior of the Portuguese Synagogue in Amsterdam during the celebration of Simchat Torah or Rejoicing of the Law. The ark in which the Torah scrolls are kept is open. On the left side of the ark sits a so-called bridegroom of the Law with the scroll Bereshit (Genesis), and on the right side a bridegroom of the Law with the last scroll of the Torah: Devarim (Deuteronomy). Below the image the legend, explanation, and title in French.
