View of the two Blokhuizen in the Amstel outside Amsterdam, built to defend the city after the failed attack by Willem II on Amsterdam on 30 July 1650. After they were completed in 1651, they were demolished again in July 1654. To the left and right of the Blokhuizen, two hameien. Various boats sail on the water. In one boat stands a small tree, and on another, the mast is being lowered. From a raft or jetty, figures swim, and in the front right, a figure relieves himself. Between the two Blokhuizen in the background, the outlines of the city with the mill De Joffer and the Zuiderkerk.
