About this work

Celestial map showing the heliocentric system of Nicolaas Copernicus. In the center is the sun, depicted with a face, surrounded by the orbits of the planets and the Earth around the sun. The Earth is shown four times in its orbit around the sun, at the beginning of each astronomical season. In the outer ring is the zodiac. Title cartouches in the upper left and right corners, supported by putti. In the lower left corner, a blindfolded, crowned woman seated behind a celestial globe and a pendulum. In the lower right corner, a seated woman with a torch, reading a book held open before her. Numbered in the lower right corner: 5.
