Tirsenia Turns into a Lemon Tree

Tirsenia receives from Ergastus the bad news that her son Harmonillus has been transformed into a lemon tree. As proof he brings her a lemon from this tree. At the moment she touches it, she herself also turns into a lemon tree. In the background stands a statue of Vertumnus, the god of fruit and the seasons. This print is an illustration for the introduction of G.B. Ferrari's book on citrus fruits. Using invented mythological stories, the author attempts to explain the origin of the different lemon varieties.
