About this work

To the left, under a tree, Mary rests and gives the Christ Child the breast. To the right, Joseph is assisted by two putti in preparing food and setting a table. In the background, the donkey grazes in a meadow and a city is visible. The family is fleeing from Herod and traveling to Egypt (Matthew 2:14). The print bears a Latin inscription describing the Flight into Egypt.
