About this work
John the Baptist sits on a rock before a crowd. Dressed in his camel's hair he preaches to his listeners in a wooded landscape with mountains and a river in the background. In the assembled group are mothers with children, pilgrims, shepherds, scholars and noblemen. In the margin below stands a verse in Latin.
