Drunken Peasant Couple

In a landscape, a drunken couple walks: "Now I am lively, fine, and fresh - But it is not a fair every day," says the man. He is supported by a woman who answers: "Yes, dear Hans, it is said for certain - Where there is joy in the house, there is pressure for the future." The Dutch text in the epigram reads as a dialogue between the drunken peasant and the peasant woman. It is supplemented with a German equivalent. It is not entirely clear why the figures are called peasant and peasant woman. The man's clothing and his feathered hat do not really resemble that of a peasant, and the sword carried by the woman seems an inappropriate attribute for someone of the peasant class.
