The Cuckold

A farmer, with horns on his back, stands in his living room. He has just come home from work and scratches his head. He expects the food on the table, but instead he sees the dog devouring the last remnants of his supper. The scene refers to the proverb: to find the dog in the pot. To the right in the foreground an owl sits on a stake, referring to misfortune and sin. In the background, through an open door, is the reason for the farmer's misfortune. His wife is in the bedroom having relations with another man. The print has a Dutch and a Latin inscription.
