About this work

Rachel, the second wife of Jacob, sits in front of a tent. Underneath her she has hidden two figurines. Her father Laban asks her where the teraphim are, the holy figurines of the family. In the background, his soldiers search the tents and possessions of the caravan. The print is part of a series on the history of Jacob.
