About this work
The devil paints on a large human heart the image of a bag of money, a naked woman and several crowns and scepters. A young man watches fascinated, and does not notice that a naked woman ties a rope to his foot. Thus the man (the young man) is bound to worldly things by his desire. In a cartouche at the bottom of the print a Dutch inscription in rhyme. The print is part of a four-part series on the futility of hope in money and other worldly things.
