About this work

A miser, the nude male figure with money bags and a toad on his shoulder, stands next to a nude woman who has had a miscarriage. The two figures illustrate the biblical text Ecclesiastes 6:3 which is mentioned on the print in German. Being born dead is preferable to a life in greed according to the text.
