About this work
Paris sits as a shepherd in a landscape and gives the golden apple to Venus. She stands with Amor between the goddesses Juno, with a peacock, and Minerva, with her shield beside her. Behind Paris stands Mercury, the messenger of the gods, with his caduceus. In the sky Apollo in his sun chariot and Jupiter on his throne. To the right Oenone and Oeneus at the water's edge among the reeds.
