About this work
King Solomon sits on his throne and passes judgment on a dispute between two prostitutes, both of whom had borne a child. The dead child lies on the ground before Solomon; the living child, claimed by both mothers, is held by a man with a sword. This man receives Solomon's order to divide the child in two, but this goes too far for the true mother, who begs him to let her child live.
