About this work

The Christ child is circumcised in a chapel in a large church. Many onlookers watch. Below the image four Latin verses. This print is part of a series of six prints with scenes from the early life of Mary. They are called the 'Masterpieces' because Goltzius imitated the work of various illustrious predecessors in them.
