About this work

Hercules sits on a stone in a landscape. He must choose between Vice and Virtue, two female personifications standing beside him. In the foreground left, a man with a laurel wreath. Text in Latin in the lower margin. The print originally belonged to book 22 of the Atlas van Rome by Michiel Hinloopen (Schijnvoet book 10).
