Paul Heals the Man Who Could Not Walk

The scene is based on the Bible text from the States Version: Acts 14:8-11. Upon arrival of the apostles Paul and Barnabas in Lystra, a place in present-day Turkey, to preach the Christian faith, Paul is surrounded by some people. Some are sick, others have a disability. The 17th-century generic term for having a disability of feet or legs was to be 'crippled'. With a gesture Paul heals the feet of the man on crutches in the name of God, so that he could walk. In the background a pillar can be seen of the temple of Jupiter or Mercury.
