About this work

Solomon passes judgment on a dispute between two prostitutes, both of whom had borne a child. The dead child lies on the ground before Solomon; the living child, claimed by both mothers, is held by a man with a sword. This man receives the order from Solomon to divide the child in two, but this goes too far for the real mother, who begs him on her knees to let her child live.
