About this work
Portrait of Pieter van Foreest (1521–1597), physician in Delft and Alkmaar. Married in 1546 to Eva van Teylingen (1525–1595). Half-length portrait, seen from the front, at the age of 64. Van Foreest is dressed in a cloak trimmed with fur, a cap on his head, a glove in his left hand. In the background, an obelisk in a mountain landscape. Six lines of legend in Latin.
