About this work
Portrait of the engraver/publisher Philips Galle, half-length, seen from the right, standing behind a table. With his right hand, he unfolds a print on the table. On the table lie a burin and a paperweight, with a stack of paper beneath it. A copper plate rests against the knob of the paperweight. In the background, a landscape with, on the left, a biblical scene: Philip baptizes the eunuch. In the margin below the portrait, a panegyric by Goltzius on Galle in seven lines of Latin.
