Portrait of the printer/publisher Christoffel Plantijn, half-length, seen from the left, standing behind a table. In his right hand a compass, with the text 'Labore et Constantia'. His left hand rests on a book. Behind his back, a column on a high pedestal. Plantijn is dressed in a cloak with loose sleeves and a fur collar. First state for inscriptions.
