About this work
Mary and Elizabeth, both just pregnant, meet each other at a city gate. Below the representation four Latin verse lines. This print is part of a series of six prints with scenes from the early life of Mary. They are called the 'Masterpieces' because Goltzius imitated the work of various illustrious predecessors in them.
