About this work
On the right foreground stands John, holding a cup. This apostle died a natural death, but endured some tortures. These are visible behind him: at the top left he is boiling in a pan, in the middle ground he is seen drinking a cup of poison. Below the scene, twice two lines of Latin. This print is part of a series of 13 prints of Christ (unnumbered) and the apostles (numbered), more specifically of the tortures they endured.
