About this work
A vegetable garden. The naked Pomona leans against a tree and is in conversation with Vertumnus, the Italian god and protector of gardens and orchards. Vertumnus has assumed the guise of an old woman to speak with Pomona and thus seduce her. In the background to the right, Pomona and Vertumnus lie naked in an embrace. The print has a Latin inscription as a caption.
