Tapestry with the punishment of Niobe

Print with a frieze of eight plates. The representation of the frieze contains four scenes telling the story of Niobe. Niobe was the daughter of Tantalus. During the festivities in Thebes in honor of Latona, mother of Apollo and Diana, Niobe reproaches the Thebans for sacrificing to Latona (center and right). The goddess Latona complains to her two children, who then avenge her honor by killing Niobe's fourteen children with arrows (center and left). Far left sits Niobe trying to protect her children. The print has a Latin caption on each plate.
