About this work

The actresses and children are dressed as classical gods, including Cupid, Apollo, and Diana. To the left, a child dressed as an eagle feeds a baby. Next to them lies on a bed a poster stating that this troupe is performing for the last time, due to the Licensing Act of 1737. Two kittens play with a lyre and a globe, and to the right a monkey urinates in a helmet.
