About this work
In a landscape, the veiled Tamar sits with her father-in-law Judah, whose signet ring and staff she has received. Judah does not recognize her and thinks she is a prostitute. Tamar becomes pregnant and, through the jewelry Judah gave her, can prove that he is the father of her child. Based on the biblical story from Gen. 38: 1-26. At the bottom of the margin, two two-line texts in Dutch and Latin.
