About this work
Two women stand arm in arm, one of whom holds a book. The woman on the left wears a velvet dress trimmed with fur edging (?). On her head a hat of plain velvet and a cornette of Blonde (bobbin lace). The other woman wears a dress of 'gros de Naples'. On her head a hat of 'gros de Naples' trimmed with satin. Around her shoulders a palatine of ermine (?). The print is part of the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797-1839.
