About this work

This print was used to illustrate two different biblical scenes. First, 'Abraham departs to Shechem'. Abraham looks at an angel who has appeared in the sky. The angel points him the way to the city of Shechem, in the region of Canaan. Abraham is surrounded by shepherds and a shepherdess milking a sheep. In the background of the hilly landscape lies a village and several shepherds are busy with their livestock. Second, the print was used to illustrate the subject 'The Annunciation to the Shepherds'.
