About this work

A bespectacled artist paints a naked woman outdoors. The model sits on her knees on the ground and looks at herself in a mirror held up by a putto. Behind the easel an artist looking at a urinal and two men with an astrolabe and compass on a globe. On the right in the foreground various measuring instruments and in the background an armillary sphere. In the front a cat and in the back right an eagle. Below the subject the Latin translation of: I know from experience that this displeases and pleases the viewer.
