About this work
Christ is nailed to the cross. At the top hangs a paper with his name in different languages. Executioners and soldiers set the cross upright in the ground. The people look on. To the left the soldier who led the execution of Christ rides up on horseback. In the background it can be seen how his soldiers lead one of the murderers away, while a second is already being bound to the cross. To the right the mourning Mary Magdalene surrounded by women and children. In the background John the Evangelist and Mary. In the margin a two-line inscription with an inscription in Latin.
