About this work
Two card players have come to blows; the old man on the right waves a jug as a weapon and his opponent has overturned the table with playing cards while a hand with a knife threatens in the air. Death intervenes by grabbing the man on the left by the throat and waving a bone. Below the print is a Latin motto in two lines alluding to the vanity (idleness) of man at the moment death is in sight.
