About this work
Although the old title describes the figures as three grotesques, another interpretation of the scene can be made based on the clothing. The man with the prominent ruff collar is a quack. He addresses a man and woman wearing peasant clothing, which also appears elsewhere in the artist's oeuvre. Especially the hood worn by the woman is characteristic.
