About this work
Elmire had sworn never to marry again. When she does marry a man, she vows to found a hospital if the marriage is happy. Soon after the start of the construction, she must stop the project because her husband has left her. This happens to her three times in a row, after which she gives up. In this scene, Elmire is in conversation with a mason in front of the hospital under construction. Numbered in the upper right: 4.
