At the instigation of Squire Thornhill, Charles Primrose is taken away to prison for an outstanding debt. Fifty poor members of his congregation attempt to prevent this by force. Charles Primrose admonishes them to remain calm and departs calmly to the prison. Numbered top left: 7.
