About this work

Scene based on the (fictional) story of Gabriel Wunderlich, a shoemaker who at the beginning of the seventeenth century had risen from shoe shiner to 'Meistersinger' and then was stifled in his songs. Afterward his spirit wandered around between the cemetery of Melau and Beuchlitz. In this night scene two men see the spirit walking. In the background the tower of the castle of Melau.
