About this work

Left: a scene based on the ballad 'Lenore'. Lenore sits behind Wilhelm, her fallen fiancé. Together they ride through the gates of the cemetery into the kingdom of the dead. Right: a scene based on the poem 'Der Bruder Graurock und die Pilgerin'. The female pilgrim recognizes her beloved, thought dead, in the porter of the monastery.
